Solar Power House Defies Power Outage that hit Giant Tech Show in Las Vegas
CES blackout highlights the vulnerabilities of grid-powered technology.
The power and possibility of solar power got a boost today when thousands of CES (International Consumer Electronics Show) visitors waited for more than an hour as a blackout struck most of the Las Vegas convention center. The CES is an international show center where those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies come to showcase new inventions of consumer technologies. This includes more than 3,900 exhibiting companies, including manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and more do visit yearly for international convention.
Thousands of visitors standing in the vast high-ceiling convention Halls stood stunned as the lights went down. Whereby, Hundreds of TVs shut off, smart devices became instantly dumb, and in the darkness, just the pale blue lights of their cellphones lit up like sickly fireflies.
Matt Power, Editor-in-Chief of Green Builder in attendance quips with a sarcastic remark – “I’m just glad that pacemakers are not hardwired, and this really does highlights one of the most glaring weaknesses in the tech arena. No power equals no digital toys, and no “Hey Google.”
“Seriously though,” He continues – Power adds, “In this age of affordable and availability of solar energy, it’s ridiculous not to have a renewable energy source backup. We can’t afford to have systems that matter go down–things like heating, lighting and safety equipment can’t be exposed to blackout risk this way. Where’s the Resilience?”
A building, equipped with Jinko solar panels and an emergency solar power backup battery from Tabuchi Electric never lost power. In fact, the Flex House staff did not even know or noticed about the power outage at the CES center until a throng of unhappy CES attendees showed up from the halls.
This is an important memo to any program organizers either here in Nigeria, Africa, or Worldwide at large. Make contingency plan to invest in solar powered battery backup for any event program you are organizing to avoid the embarrassment just as it happened at CES center.
Now it is time you take the bull by the horns
